- Firearms Instruction, Responsibility, & Safety Training
is the NRA's response to the American public's need for a firearms orientation program for new purchasers or those who are thinking of their first firearms purchase.
This orientation class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the Safe handling and proper orientation of specific firearms. These classes are approximately 3 hours in length and touch on firearm safety, handling, and shooting skills "no live fire" in this orientation class.
- NRA Basic Pistol
- Teaches the Basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude for Owning and Operating a pistol safely.
This course is at approximately 8 hours long and includes classroom, as well as range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn the NRA's rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; cleaning the pistol and live fire.
Students will receive the NRA course completion certificate suitable for framing.
- South Carolina Concealed Weapons Class
- Same as the ABOVE Basic Pistol course, but extended to between 8 and 10 hours to include all requirements set forth by the State of SC code 23-31-210 through 23-31-215 and specifically cover Statutory and Case Law relating to handguns and the Use of Deadly Force, Handgun Safety and Use, proper storage practices to reduce the possibility of accidental injury to children. Taking a written test with a passing score of at least 70% and qualify at the range with a minimum score of 70%. Upon successful completion of this course, students not otherwise disqualified by law, will be eligible to apply to SLED for a Concealed Weapons Permit in South Carolina.
- Items required by SLED to apply to them for a SC CWP.
- An SCCWP application downloaded from SLED website, and filled out completely with original signature.
- Proof of SC residence, or real property proof from non resident, a valid SC drivers license with correct address is sufficient and will serve as an adequate vision requirement. If a state ID is used, then proof from an optometrist showing corrected vision of at least 20/40 is required.
- 2 complete sets of fingerprints, prints MAY be taken at class Only if time permits or you can obtain them prior to or after class from any local Law Enforcement Agency.
- Proof of Training certificate with your Instructors name, signature, training ID number and both written and range test scores. A person who is at least 18 may take the class, but may not send in their paperwork to SLED until their 21st birthday.
- $50.00 fee payable to SLED via money order or certified check, SLED does not accept cash or personal checks.
- You will then receive your SCCWP (or reason for denial) directly from SLED in around 90 days. DO NOT call and bother SLED wondering where you stand, as they are very busy processing applications from all over the state. If after 100 days you have had no response, then you may call.
